Serine

Serine

Serine is an amino acid found in large amounts in the natural moisturizing factor (NMF) of the stratum corneum. Together with other amino acids, it binds water in the epidermis and protects it from drying out.

In cosmetics it replenishes what skin loses during cleansing and in dry air. It moisturizes, softens and helps keep the stratum corneum in good condition.

In our cosmetics, serine usually works as a team with other amino acids. You'll find it in face creams and serums, masks, micellar waters and foundations.

Did you know?: Serine takes its name from the Latin sericum, meaning silk - it was first isolated from sericin, a silk protein
