Glutamic Acid
Glutamic acid
Glutamic acid is one of the amino acids that make up proteins. In the skin, it is part of the NMF - the natural moisturising factor that holds water in the stratum corneum and protects it from drying out.
In cosmetics, it supports skin hydration and helps keep it soft and smooth. In hair care, it has a conditioning effect, which is why it often appears in amino acid complexes alongside alanine, arginine and proline.
You will find it in our face creams and serums, micellar waters, cleansing foams, hair conditioners and foundations.
Did you know?: Glutamate is what gives us the umami taste. Japanese chemist Kikunae Ikeda discovered it while investigating the distinctive flavour of kombu seaweed broth.
