Betaine

Betaine

Betaine is a compound that plants accumulate to protect their cells from water loss, for example during drought or in highly saline soil. Cosmetics use betaine derived from sugar beet.

It binds water in the epidermis, moisturising and softening the skin while soothing it at the same time. In cleansing products, it softens the effect of surfactants, so skin and scalp feel less tight after washing. In hair, it helps maintain moisture and makes detangling easier.

In our cosmetics, you will find it in shampoos, conditioners, shower gels, micellar waters and facial cleansing foams, as well as in creams, serums and foundations.

Did you know?: Betaine owes its name to the beet - Beta vulgaris in Latin - from which it was first isolated. To this day, it is obtained mainly from beet molasses.
