A bath with relaxation: which products to choose for a home spa?
Contents
In the daily rush, between work, household and family duties, it is easy to forget one of the simplest and most effective forms of regeneration - a hot, aromatic bath. And yet the bathing ritual is something far more than ordinary hygiene. It is a moment when you can stop, cut yourself off from outside stimuli and give your body and mind a while of real relaxation.
You do not have to spend a fortune on a visit to a luxury spa to feel special. All you need is well-chosen products, a little preparation and some time just for yourself to turn your own bathroom into a private oasis of calm. In this article we will suggest which products to choose for a home spa, how to create the ideal atmosphere and which natural additions will make your bath a ritual you will happily return to on a regular basis.
Why is it worth creating a home spa?
A hot bath has a real, measurable effect on our health and wellbeing - it helps reduce stress and tension. Warm water relaxes tense muscles, lowers the level of cortisol (the stress hormone) and stimulates the release of endorphins, the natural substances that improve our mood. Just twenty minutes spent in a tub filled with aromatic water can ease muscle aches, reduce tension in the neck and shoulders and calm a mind left jangling after an intense day.
Regular relaxing baths also have a beneficial effect on the quality of your sleep. A bath in warm water 1-2 hours before bedtime will help you fall asleep faster and will deepen your sleep. This comes from the natural mechanism of thermoregulation - after you get out of the warm water your body starts to cool down, which signals to the brain that it is time to rest.
A home spa is also an excellent opportunity to care for your skin. Warm water opens the pores, making it easier to absorb the active ingredients from salts, oils and other bath additions. After such a bath the skin is soft, moisturised and nourished, and the regular use of natural care products can significantly improve its condition - reducing dryness, irritation and the feeling of tightness. Importantly, you can achieve all this in the comfort of your own home, with no bookings, no traffic jams and no need to leave the flat.
Products for a relaxing bath
Which products are worth having in the bathroom to create an aromatic and relaxing bath? What is worth dropping into the tub when we care about nourishing the skin, and what when it comes to a tired body and tired muscles? Which products can further enrich the evening spa ritual? Immerse yourself in what follows to find the answers to these questions.
Bath bombs
Bath bombs are a real pleasure for the senses - once dropped into the water they fizz, dissolve and release fragrances and caring ingredients. Good quality bath bombs contain natural ingredients: bicarbonate of soda, citric acid, whole milk, plant oils, moisturising butters and essential oils. After a bath with a bomb like that the skin is silky and moisturised, and you feel as though you have had a professional spa treatment.
When choosing bath bombs, pay attention to the composition - avoid products with artificial dyes and strongly foaming substances, which can dry your skin out. The best bombs are those based on natural ingredients, with gentle colours obtained from clays, minerals and plant extracts. It is worth having a few different variants at home - a relaxing one for the evening, a refreshing one for the morning and a nourishing one for when the skin needs particular care.
At Ministerstwo we have a wide choice of bath hemispheres. Everyone is sure to find something for themselves :) For fans of sweetness we have on offer: Chocolate, Halva, Cinnamon and Milk-Honey-Oat, for lovers of flowers: relaxing Lavender, fresh Rose or the slightly sweeter Rose-Raspberry, as well as Saffron with its oriental composition of essential oils and Calendula with dried marigold petals and sweet orange essential oil, and for admirers of drier fragrances Rosemary+Salt with French green clay and the seasonal Red Pepper with pine essential oil. Our hemispheres are filled to the brim with natural ingredients: oils, unrefined shea butter, whole milk and dried herbs and flower petals, thanks to which an ordinary bath turns into an aromatic and incredibly relaxing home spa ritual, leaving your skin wonderfully smooth, moisturised and at ease. Sounds perfect, doesn't it?
Clays
Natural clays have supported the skin's regeneration and cleansed it beautifully for centuries. In our range you will find three kinds of French clay - white, pink and green. Each of them holds a COSMOS and Ecocert certificate. Although most of us associate them with a face mask, they are also a great bath addition. They cleanse gently, support skin regeneration, revitalise, delicately smooth and firm the skin and also regulate sebum production, without any feeling of tightness. They will prepare your skin perfectly for your favourite lotion or oil.
How to use them in the bath? Depending on the size of your tub, pour a handful or two of clay into the warm water. You can add a few drops of your favourite oil, for example sweet almond. After the bath rinse your body and pat it dry with a towel, apply an oil or lotion and you are done!
Bath salts
Bath salt is also a good addition to a home spa. Among the most popular ones you can choose from: Dead Sea salt, Himalayan salt, Epsom salt (magnesium sulphate) or Polish salts from Bochnia or Zabłocie. A bath with salt is excellent at getting rid of the symptoms of tiredness and also soothes muscle and joint pain as well as skin inflammation. It is worth remembering that a bath with salt should not last longer than 30 minutes. The water should be warm but not hot - the optimal temperature is around 36-38°C.
Pro tip: to enrich the beneficial effect of a bath with salt you can make your own mixture, adding your favourite flower petals, a little oil (for example sweet almond) and a few drops of essential oil to the salt. This will make the bath even more moisturising and aromatic.
Essential oils
Essential oils are the heart of aromatherapy and a powerful tool in creating a bathing atmosphere. Every oil has unique properties - lavender calms and makes it easier to fall asleep, eucalyptus clears the airways and invigorates, peppermint soothes headaches and refreshes, and ylang-ylang works as an antidepressant and a sensual note. Orange and bergamot lift the mood, rosemary improves concentration, and tea tree has antibacterial properties and supports problem skin.
An important rule: never add essential oils directly to the water. These are highly concentrated substances that do not dissolve in water and can irritate your skin. Before adding them to the bath, dissolve them in any carrier - a little base oil (for example sweet almond oil or sugar cane squalane) or bath salt. Just 5-10 drops of essential oil for a full tub is enough to fill your whole bathroom with a beautiful aroma.
Natural soaps and washing gels
Once the bath base is prepared, it is time for gentle washing products. Choose natural soap bars rich in oils and butters that care for the skin while washing. Full of natural glycerine, long cured, economical and gentle thanks to their content of unsaponified oils and butters. And if you prefer shower gels, choose ones with mild washing substances, containing beneficial plant extracts and soothing substances such as panthenol, allantoin and inulin. At Ministerstwo you will find a wide choice of both soap bars and shower gels. The hardest task? Picking just one fragrance. From refreshing, through floral and herbal, to sweet scents. Which will become your favourite? Psst... it can be a different scent every day - do remember that :)
Body scrub
How about an extra portion of relaxation and unwinding? During your bath you can also exfoliate your body - and we recommend our bestselling Plum body scrub with all our heart. In it you will find: aromatic plum seed oil, sweet almond oil, grape seed oil and avocado oil, as well as shea butter, cocoa butter and beeswax, plus olive squalane and vitamin E. All this makes our scrub work effectively and gently, without causing irritation. It exfoliates dead skin, softens and at the same time leaves a wonderful, delicate protective layer on the skin that supports the regeneration processes of the epidermis. The sweet, certified plum aroma turns the bath into a relaxing ritual. Afterwards the skin stays smooth (an increase in smoothness of as much as 40%!), nourished, moisturised and softened. A fantastic companion to a nourishing bath!
How to create the ideal conditions for a bath?
The bath product itself is only half the success - the atmosphere in which your bathing ritual takes place is equally important. Begin preparing the perfect bath by clearing the space. Tidy the bathroom, put away unnecessary objects and lay out fresh, soft towels. The bathroom should be warm - if you have the option, turn on the heating fifteen minutes or so beforehand, so the room is pleasantly warm when you get out of the tub.
The temperature of the water is crucial. The optimal temperature for a relaxing bath is 36-38°C. The water is then warm enough to relax the muscles, but not so hot as to strain the circulatory system. Water that is too hot can cause dizziness, a faster pulse and excessive drying of the skin. If you do not have a water thermometer, follow a simple rule - the water should be pleasantly warm, but not scalding!
Build the atmosphere consciously and with pleasure. Light your favourite scented candle with a delicate fragrance. If you use essential oils you can use unscented candles - too many overlapping fragrances can be overwhelming. Dim the light or switch off the overhead lighting, leaving only the glow of candles. Put on some calm music - the sounds of nature, ambient compositions or your favourite relaxing playlist. Some people value silence and that is an excellent choice too - the most important thing is to listen to the needs of your body. Prepare a glass of water with lemon or a warm herbal tea to keep yourself hydrated during the bath.
Before the bath you can also give yourself a dry body massage with our brush made of beech wood with horsehair. Such a massage brings relaxation, a gentle exfoliation, stimulated circulation and improved skin elasticity. Performed in the quiet of the bathroom you have prepared beforehand, it will be a wonderful introduction to your evening relaxation.
As for the duration, the ideal relaxing bath should last from 20 to 30 minutes. A shorter time may not be enough for the body and mind to unwind fully, while staying in the water too long can dry out the skin and cause a feeling of weakness. Twenty minutes is the golden mean, after which you feel relaxed but still full of energy.
And after the bath? Time for moisture
After finishing your relaxation in the tub, the skin is superbly prepared for the next stages of care. This is the ideal time for a lotion or your favourite body oil - you can use it for care instead of a lotion or for a short massage. Sweet almond oil is perfectly suited to this, nourishing, regenerating and smoothing the skin, and if you fancy a touch of beautiful fragrance and a moment of self-massage - try the Rose-Raspberry massage oil. If, however, you prefer the classic of the genre, that is a body lotion, you will find something for yourself here too. A jar, a tube, a bar, or perhaps a balm stick? We have it all! Get to know our body lotions and choose your favourite. Nourishing Saffron, moisturising Algae+Panthenol, or perhaps the regenerating sticks? Whatever you choose, a perfectly matched composition of natural ingredients will make your skin nourished, moisturised and regenerated.
Summary - the bath as the key to relaxing body and soul
A home spa needs no great budget or complicated preparations - all you need is a bathtub, a few well-chosen products and some time devoted solely to yourself. Regular relaxing baths are an investment in your health, your wellbeing and the condition of your skin, one that pays off every evening when you close the bathroom door behind you and let warm, aromatic water chase away the tension of the day gone by.
We encourage you to experiment - try different hemispheres, clays, salts, oils and natural additions, look for the combinations that suit your needs and moods. Sometimes it will be soothing lavender, another time refreshing orange, and yet another a luxurious bath in milk, honey and oats. The most important thing is to treat this time not as another duty, but as a gift you give yourself regularly. After all, your body and mind deserve a moment of relaxation, and a good bath is the friendliest and easiest way to give it to them.
Take care of yourself today and unwind in a relaxing bath in the peace of your own home.
