Citric Acid
Citric acid
Citric acid occurs naturally in citrus and many other fruits. In cosmetics, it most often acts as a pH adjuster - it matches the pH of a cream, shampoo or micellar water to the naturally slightly acidic pH of skin and hair. This makes the product gentler and helps preservatives and active ingredients work as they should.
In bath bombs and bath halves, it has a second job: once dropped into water, it reacts with baking soda and releases carbon dioxide, creating fizzy bubbles. You will find it in our lotions, creams, shampoos, micellar waters, shower gels, foundations and hair styling products.
Did you know?: Citric acid was first isolated from lemon juice. Today it is produced mainly by fermenting sugar with the mould Aspergillus niger.
