Acacia Senegal Gum
Gum arabic
Gum arabic is the dried sap (resin) of the Senegal acacia, collected from cuts in the bark of trees growing across the Sahel belt in Africa. It is a water-soluble polysaccharide.
In cosmetics, it thickens and stabilises emulsions and improves the texture of creams and gels. On skin and hair, it leaves a delicate film that smooths and helps lock in moisture. You'll find it in our face and hand creams, body lotion, hair conditioner and styling clay.
Did you know?: Gum arabic has been used for centuries as a binder in watercolour paints, and in food you'll find it labelled as E414.
