I've had this clay for about a year now. At first I used it on short hair and assumed that once it grew out I'd go back to gels. Well, that's not quite what happened, and I'm not sorry about it :D My curls liked this product so much that I decided to keep it as one of my staple cosmetics. At first I used it with a prestyler, but that combo turned out to be a bit too heavy for me. The prestyler ran out and I went back to my favourite BS, and the effect is just right for me. My curls get their definition from the BS, and the clay sets them so well that I'm sorted until the next wash. Highly recommend. PS. I hope someday you'll release a leave-in conditioner or a gel with an equally gorgeous scent

What is hair clay used for?
Rosemary + Salt Clay is used for hair styling - to make shaping easier, add volume, achieve the desired shape and hold the hairstyle in place.
What is hair clay? It leaves a matte effect, but how else does it differ from other styling products - waxes, gels, pomades...?
Rosemary + Salt hair clay belongs to the category of styling products known as matte pomades or pastes - that's why we use the names "clay", "clay paste", "hair paste" and "matte pomade" interchangeably :) As a product type, hair clays offer easy application, flexibility and great control over your hairstyle. They are characterised by a so-called medium hold. They give hair volume and texture, leaving a natural, matte look without weighing it down. What hair type is Rosemary + Salt Clay intended for?
Hair clay is designed for styling short hair for men and women. However, the way you use it and the result you get may vary depending on your hair type and porosity.
Why is clay not recommended for styling long hair?
The longer the hair, the harder it is to apply and distribute matte styling products, and to achieve a natural, matte finish without the hair clumping together. This means that on long hair you won't get the effect we aimed for when designing the clay formula :( However, people with long hair can use the clay to smooth down baby hair or apply a small amount to damp hair at the roots to lift it and build volume while drying.
Can the clay be used to tame baby hair?
Yes, the clay can be successfully used (in a tiny amount!) to smooth down unruly baby hair :)
Will the clay help reduce frizz?
On long hair, especially medium and high porosity, wavy and curly hair, matte styling products such as Rosemary + Salt clay may increase frizz. So the clay won't work for smoothing frizzy hair, but it can be used in a small amount to tame unruly baby hair :)
Can the clay pomade be used to style waves and curls instead of gel?
The clay is suitable for styling SHORT curly hair - including scrunching into damp hair to bring out the natural curl pattern while diffusing. With longer curls and waves, the matte formula of the clay may increase their tendency to frizz :(
How do I use hair clay? How do I apply it to dry hair and how to damp hair? How will the effect differ?
When using the clay on wet hair, we recommend applying a small amount to the roots only, to lift the hair and add volume while drying, or scrunching it through short curly hair along its full length to bring out the natural curl. On dry hair, you can use a tiny amount on baby hairs to smooth them, or work it through the full length of short hair to shape and set your style :)
Is the clay sticky? Does it stay wet on the hair or make it clump together?
Stickiness is a subjective feeling that may vary depending on your point of reference ;) However, compared to other types of hair styling products, the clay is not sticky to the touch, and once applied it doesn't feel tacky or make hair look wet or greasy.
Does the clay stay flexible or does it harden on the hair? Does it leave a visible "crust"?
The clay doesn't harden on the hair and stays flexible, so you can restyle your hair throughout the day without losing the effect. This means it not only leaves no crust, but also doesn't need time to dry to achieve a matte finish.
Is the clay lightweight or can it weigh hair down?
The hybrid formula of the clay, combining water and natural waxes, is lightweight - it doesn't weigh hair down or make it get greasy faster.
Will the clay be visible on black/dark hair?
No, when applied in the right amount, the clay becomes invisible once worked into the hair, even dark hair.
Is it easy to overdo it and apply too much?
The lightweight, water-based formula of the clay makes it quite hard to apply too much. We recommend applying it in small amounts, adding more a few times if needed. When working it in this way, you'll quickly feel when you've used enough - your fingers will stop gliding smoothly through your hair :)
Does the clay rinse out easily? What should I use to wash it out?
The clay washes out of hair effortlessly (and off your hands right after application :)) with just water/shampoo - there's no need to emulsify it with conditioner first.
Do I need to wash my hair after every use of the clay? How often should I wash my hair when using it?
In theory, washing your hair after every use of the clay isn't necessary. The clay doesn't weigh hair down or make the scalp get greasy faster, so it doesn't require more frequent washing than when you don't use it or use other styling products. It's worth considering, though, how hygienic it is to sleep with clay in your hair for several days in a row ;)
Is the clay suitable for daily use?
Yes, the clay can be used daily - bear in mind, however, that each subsequent application without washing your hair first may make it harder to apply and affect the final result.
Is the clay also a hair care product?
We've included a number of natural ingredients with conditioning properties in the clay's formula, as a sort of "bonus", but please remember that it is a product designed for hair styling :) With this formula, care benefits weren't our priority - we can't rule them out, but they haven't been properly confirmed by testing.
Can the clay dry out my hair? What are the properties of clays?
The clays contained in the Rosemary + Salt clay absorb excess sebum, among other things, so the product may also help keep hair fresh for longer, especially oily hair. Throughout the formula, however, the ingredients are properly balanced with a lipid phase so they don't have a drying effect. And don't worry about the salt in the name - it refers only to the product's scent and isn't in the formula.
Can using the clay damage my hair?
When used correctly and as intended, the clay doesn't damage or harm hair in any way, nor does it negatively affect its condition.
Does the formula contain beeswax?
No, our Clay contains plant waxes: candelilla and carnauba. The whole formula is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
