Euphorbia Cerifera Wax, Euphorbia Cerifera Cera
Candelilla wax
Candelilla wax comes from the stems of the wax spurge, a plant growing in the deserts of northern Mexico and the southern USA. The stems are boiled in water, and the wax is skimmed from the surface and purified.
It's harder than beeswax and gives a lovely shine, which makes it perfect for lip balms and sticks - it gives them a stable form and helps them glide smoothly over the lips. It forms a protective layer on the skin that limits moisture loss and shields against wind and frost.
As a fully plant-based wax, it's a great alternative to beeswax in vegan cosmetics. In our products, you'll find it in protective lip balms and hair styling clay.
Did you know?: Candelilla stems are coated in a layer of wax that protects them from drying out in the desert climate of northern Mexico. The word "cerifera" in its name means "wax-bearing" in Latin.
