Squalene

Squalene

Squalene is a lipid compound that the skin produces on its own - it's one of the components of sebum. It's also found in plants, including olive oil and amaranth seeds. Unlike squalane, its hydrogenated form, it's less stable, but very close to what naturally occurs on the skin.

It makes the skin supple and soft, supports its protective barrier and helps reduce water loss. It spreads easily and blends well with oils, improving their absorption.

You'll find it in our face creams and hand creams.

Did you know?: Squalene takes its name from Squalus, the Latin name of a shark genus - it was first isolated from shark liver oil. Today it's also obtained from plants, such as olives and amaranth.
