Shea butter
Shea butter is made from the nuts of the shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa), which grows on the savannas of West Africa. It is solid at room temperature, but softens on contact with the skin and spreads easily.
It is rich in fatty acids (oleic and stearic) and an unsaponifiable fraction containing natural phytosterols and vitamin E, among others. It forms a delicate protective layer on the skin, limits water loss, and nourishes and softens rough skin.
In our cosmetics, shea butter enriches body balms, lip balms, soaps and bath bombs. In hair care products, it smooths strands and makes detangling easier.
Did you know?: The shea tree only bears fruit after over a decade, and for generations the butter has been made mainly by women in West Africa - which is why it is called "women's gold".
