Lactic Acid
Lactic acid
Lactic acid belongs to the alpha hydroxy acids (AHA). Skin knows it well, as lactates are part of its natural moisturizing factor (NMF). For cosmetics, it is usually obtained by fermenting plant sugars.
In most of our products, it works as a pH regulator - keeping creams, shampoos and conditioners close to the natural pH of skin and hair. It also supports hydration, and in conditioners it helps seal the hair cuticle, leaving strands smoother and shinier. You will find it in creams, serums, toner, shampoos, conditioners, shower gels and lip balm.
Did you know?: Lactic acid is named after milk - it was first discovered in sour milk. The same acid forms when pickling cucumbers and cabbage.
