Vegetable glycerin
Glycerin is a simple, sweet-tasting compound that forms the backbone of every plant fat. It is obtained from vegetable oils by separating it from fatty acids, for example during saponification. It is colourless, viscous, dissolves easily in water and blends with almost any other ingredient.
It works like a water magnet: it binds moisture in the stratum corneum, helps prevent dryness and leaves the skin soft and supple. It also supports the skin's protective barrier and soothes that tight feeling after washing. It is very well tolerated, even by sensitive skin.
It is one of the most frequently used ingredients in our cosmetics. You'll find it in our natural soaps, shampoos and conditioners, shower gels, micellar waters, creams, serums, foundations, lotions, bath bombs and even our bioglitters.
Did you know?: Glycerin was first described in 1779 by Swedish chemist Carl Wilhelm Scheele. It forms naturally when fats are saponified, which is why it stays in the bar in traditionally made soap.
