Cetyl Alcohol
Cetyl alcohol
Cetyl alcohol is a fatty alcohol - a white, waxy substance that shares only the name of its chemical group with ethyl alcohol. It doesn't dry the skin; on the contrary, it acts as an emollient, softening and smoothing the epidermis.
In creams it also plays a technical role: it thickens them, stabilizes the emulsion and gives it a creamy, velvety texture. You'll find it in our face and hand creams, masks and hair styling products.
Did you know?: The name "cetyl" comes from the Latin "cetus", meaning whale - it was originally obtained from sperm whale blubber. Today it is sourced from plant oils such as coconut and palm oil
