The Saffrons compared - the body balm bar, the nourishing body lotion and the smoothing body mousse - Ministerstwo Dobrego Mydła

While working on any new formula there comes a moment when a cosmetics maker has to answer a very important question: what connects the newcomer with the products already on offer, and should it form a line with any of them? Sometimes the answer is clear and obvious from the very start - as was the case with Ministerstwo's nourishing body balms. Still hopelessly in love with our Smoothing body mousse Saffron after all these years, we had not the slightest doubt that the body balm bar and our first classic moisturising lotion should join the saffron flock :) On the wave of that decision, however, it becomes necessary to sketch out for you the similarities and differences between the Saffrons, so as to make it as easy as possible to choose the one that best answers your needs. Do come along!

Before we move on to a detailed description of each of the products in the title, let us pause for a moment at what they have in common. We are dealing with three vegan body care cosmetics with different formulas but a shared idea. The title ingredient of all three recipes is safflower seed oil (known as saffron oil), which regenerates the epidermal barrier, soothes, softens, smooths and nourishes the skin thanks to its rich content of linoleic acid, vitamins A, E and K and phytosterols. The aroma of the Saffrons, meanwhile, comes from an exceptional composition of essential oils of patchouli and true lavender, mandarin, lemongrass and rosewood, which give a slightly citrusy scent with a spicy, oriental note, turning body care with the products from this line into a ritual that soothes the senses.

Smoothing body mousse Saffron 120 ml

The first was the smoothing body mousse mentioned at the beginning. Its name turned out to be slightly misleading, since what you find in the jar is a body butter - but this water-free composition, which contains among others shea butter (Butyrospermum Parkii Butter), cocoa butter and plant oils (safflower, raspberry seed, sea buckthorn and peach kernel, among others), enriched with essential oils, has been whipped for a long time in order to aerate it and give the whole a slightly foamy consistency. Hence the mousse ;) Most importantly, its formula melts instantly on contact with our body heat, so it "glides across the skin" smoothly and spreads with ease. The saffron mousse is an exceptionally efficient product. We recommend applying it straight after a bath, when the skin is still warm and damp - then a smaller amount of product covers a larger area of skin and its absorption is better, though... not complete ;) The job of the saffron mousse is, after all, to leave a delicate protective layer on the surface of the skin. With regular use the mousse makes the skin more supple, softer to the touch and noticeably nourished and moisturised. Application tests additionally confirmed that Saffron - the smoothing body mousse - brings relief to dry and cracked skin and copes beautifully with regenerating the epidermis in people with damaged and mature skin.

We have a special soft spot for it - in 2016 it became the first cosmetic in Ministerstwo's history to be awarded a Glamour Glammies statuette. No wonder, then, that years later it became the forerunner of a whole line of saffron body care products, joined in autumn 2022 by its younger brother - the Nourishing body balm bar.

Nourishing body and lip balm bar Saffron 75 g

This unusual natural balm is intended for the daily care of the whole body and the lips. It comes in the shape of a round disc and is packed exclusively in greaseproof paper and a paper carton. The convenient bar format is an excellent alternative to traditional butters and lotions for everyone who values handy cosmetics and for those cutting down on plastic in everyday life. In use, the formula of the bar most resembles our regenerating balm sticks - it combines butters, waxes and plant oils, only without the plastic packaging. The Saffron bar also contains omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, beneficial vitamin E (tocopherol) and squalane, which protect the skin against excessive moisture loss and are responsible, among other things, for increasing hydration and elasticity, strengthening the epidermal barrier and soothing redness.

Applying the balm bar is very simple - on contact with the skin the bar warms up and glides smoothly across its surface, leaving a delicate protective film that shields the skin from external factors without any uncomfortable sticky feeling. The formula of this nourishing balm soothes irritation, redness and a feeling of tightness, reduces the roughness of the epidermis and properly nourishes dry and cracked skin (including the lips we mentioned :)). Daily body care with it strengthens the skin's natural protective barrier and reduces transepidermal moisture loss by as much as 22%!

Is the balm efficient?

In our view - YES! Although it of course depends on how intensively you use it and on the area of the body you are caring for :) The high efficiency of our saffron balm bar was confirmed by as many as 97% of the participants, who used it daily throughout the study (4 weeks)!

Is the balm bar suitable for facial care?

Yes, if we mean occasional use of the balm bar on the face. It protects the skin beautifully against wind and frost, especially in winter. Our saffron bar also works well as a lip balm, helping improve the condition of particularly dry and cracked lips, supporting the regeneration of the epidermis, moisturising and adding lipids.

How should the balm bar be stored? Does this balm bar fit in your shampoo storage tin?

Above all away from sources of heat :) in a cool, dry and shaded place, for example on a bathroom shelf or a bedside cabinet. To keep the balm clean, we recommend closing it in a clean, dry jar or tin after use - yes, the "shampoo" ones available in our little shop are a perfect fit :) You can buy them HERE: Shampoo tin - Ministerstwo Dobrego Mydła

Nourishing body lotion Saffron 160 ml

The youngest member of the saffron family is the Nourishing body lotion, with the lightest yet equally efficient formula. If we had to compare its consistency to anything, it is closer to our bestselling face cream Rose-Raspberry Jam than to its older saffron brothers. It does share with them, however, our favourite slightly citrusy, oriental scent obtained from our own blend of essential oils, the light yellow colour and the base ingredients, among which safflower oil (known as saffron oil), shea butter and sea buckthorn, peach kernel, sweet almond and raspberry seed oils could not be missing. To make it regenerate the skin beautifully, we enriched it with propanediol (known as plant glycol), the vitamin E mentioned earlier and a complex of ten exotic extracts of Korean provenance, which we have the honour of presenting: Santalum Album Extract, Agastache Rugosa Extract, Asparagus Cochinchinensis Extract, Boswellia Carterii Resin Extract, Cinnamomum Cassia Bark Extract, Eugenia Caryophyllus Flower Extract, Glycyrrhiza Uralensis Root Extract, Inula Helenium Extract, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Poria Cocos Sclerotium Extract. Do you need intensive care for dry, irritated body skin? The composition of ingredients in the light, moisturising Saffron lotion provides the right hydration and nourishment without weighing the skin down, smooths, softens and adds suppleness, and brings relief if the skin is parched. The light, slightly runny consistency of this creamy lotion means it spreads easily and absorbs beautifully, leaving no noticeable film on the surface of the skin.

Can the lotion be used during pregnancy?

Yes! In case of any doubts or allergies, however, we recommend consulting your doctor, whom you can show the full ingredient list of the lotion, available in the "Ingredients" section and on the packaging.

Which Saffron to choose?

Let us briefly sum it all up once more, to make your choice easier:

  • The smoothing body mousse has the richest, most oil-based formula - in the jar it is a lightly whipped butter, but on contact with the warmth of the skin it slowly turns into a thick, nourishing oil. It is the best option for dry and very dry skin and skin that has lost its firmness. Warmed up in the hands beforehand it can also work well for a body massage. It leaves a delicate protective layer on the surface of the skin and holds its intense scent the longest. A jar of the mousse contains 120 ml of goodness.
  • The nourishing body balm bar is the less waste option for people who particularly care about the environment and cut down on the waste they produce. We also recommend it to everyone who is constantly on the move and needs to take a balm on a plane, to the gym, into the mountains or under canvas. Of the three, the nourishing saffron balm bar is also best for targeted use, for example on the lips, dry elbows or cracked heels, sealing them with a protective layer of butters and waxes. One bar weighs 75 grams and works best in a duo with its perfectly matched aluminium tin.
  • We recommend the nourishing body lotion especially when you are looking for a product with a light formula that absorbs quickly and whose main task is to moisturise the skin. It will be the best choice for summer, for holidays in warm countries or for a morning routine after which you want to get dressed straight away. We are handing it over to you in a glass jar with a capacity of 160 ml.

And if you are simply tempted by every cosmetic novelty there is, let us quote a classic: TAKE ALL THREE! ;)
