Soothing serum for sensitive skin Rice + Ceramides

Over the years, the range of Ministerstwo's facial care products has undergone not only significant growth but also an evolution - from a minimalism focused on pure plant raw materials to the richness of multi-ingredient, advanced, rose-raspberry formulas. In our portfolio of in-house formulations, however, we were missing a certain counterweight. A lightweight contender for those who need richness but with gentleness - not stimulation, but a soft embrace. Soothing, calming, regeneration... Products in this category are what we like to call a duvet for the skin - and that is exactly what Rice is :) We guarantee you will want to meet it in person!

A light, hypoallergenic face serum

Born of this need, the Soothing serum for sensitive skin Rice + Ceramides is also a multi-ingredient proposition, but an exceptionally gentle one. Packed with ingredients whose job is to protect, rebuild and strengthen the skin's natural lipid barrier. Created with sensitive skin in mind - both permanently dried-out and temporarily irritated - to bring it relief and support the skin's regeneration. It is also an excellent foundation for winter care of every skin type, a rescue for skin exposed to dry air from radiators, cold wind and frost.

We have to admit that on top of everything it gives the skin, the Rice serum is exceptionally pleasant to the senses, both to the touch and to the nose. It smells delicately sweet and creamy, or perhaps even powdery, like pastel sweets from the nineties? We are proud to point out, though, that it owes its scent to an allergen-free composition, which lets it apply for the job of everyday companion even to allergy-prone and atopic skin.

The serum's formula, though oil-based, is exceptionally light, so it does not weigh the skin down. It leaves a velvety, non-greasy finish on the surface (which you just want to stroke, or pet, or whatever you prefer to call it ;)), and is suitable for use morning and evening, including under make-up. Like all oil-based cosmetics, however, the Rice serum needs to be applied to skin that has been dampened beforehand - so we recommend applying it in a duo with a chosen hydrolate or with our water-based moisturising serum, Sugar. We ourselves are especially fond of mixing Rice with Sugar in the palm of the hand and applying them to the skin at the same time. As for the proportions of such a two-phase mix, we suggest starting with one pump of Sugar and one or two drops of Rice. Once you get to know each other better, you can adjust the proportions in later uses to suit your skin's individual needs ;)

We enclosed the formula of the soothing Rice serum in a bottle of biophotonic glass, which provides the more sensitive raw materials with a high level of protection against visible light, preventing a drop in the product's effectiveness and a loss of nutritional value throughout the whole time it is used.

Key ingredients in the Rice + Ceramides face serum

We have already sketched out the profile of the rice serum and explained how it is used; now it is time to put the most important thing under the microscope: what is inside! At the outset it is worth noting that the serum is entirely vegan. The foundation of Rice's water-free formula is a balanced combination of sugar cane squalane (Why we fell in love with sugar cane squalane) and natural plant oils - including rice bran, cottonseed and baobab - with nourishing, soothing and regenerating properties. Their action is supported by carefully chosen lipids, unsaturated fatty acids, plant extracts and the highlight of the show, that is ceramides - both in pure synthetic form and additionally delivered by a plant-based oat extract. The whole is designed to support the hydrolipid barrier, restore the proper protective functions of the epidermis, and also soothe irritation and ensure the right level of skin hydration.

Natural plant oils and emollients contained in the serum

-

Sugar cane squalane (INCI: Squalane) - one of our beloved raw materials, almost omnipresent in Ministerstwo products. Irreplaceable as the base ingredient of every oil serum in our range :) Light, non-burdening, absorbs beautifully. It restores the skin's firmness and elasticity, softens and smooths it, reducing the visibility of fine lines. You can read more about squalane in the post dedicated to it, under the highly meaningful title "Why we fell in love with sugar cane squalane" ;)

-

Rice bran oil (INCI: Oryza Sativa Bran Oil) regulates sebum secretion, nourishes and improves the elasticity of the skin, has a soothing action and speeds up the regeneration of a damaged epidermis. It contains gamma-oryzanol - an exceptionally strong and effective antioxidant whose anti-ageing action is described as up to ten times greater than that of vitamin E!

-

Cottonseed oil (INCI: Gossypium Herbaceum Seed Oil), rich in antioxidants (including vitamin E) and unsaturated fatty acids, has a nourishing, soothing and softening action, stimulates the regeneration processes of the epidermis and supports the rebuilding of the lipid layer.

-

Baobab seed oil (INCI: Adansonia Digitata Seed Oil) - thanks to its soothing properties, which it owes to a wealth of unsaturated fatty acids and vitamins A, D and E, it is one of the flagship oils in the care of sensitive skin prone to irritation and allergies, and also skin struggling with atopic dermatitis or psoriasis.

-

Rice lipids (INCI: Oryza Sativa (Rice) Lipids) form a film on the surface of the skin with a very pleasant finish, at the same time limiting moisture loss in the epidermis and effectively improving hydration levels. They are also characterised by a high content of the antioxidant vitamin E.

-

Perilla seed oil (INCI: Perilla Ocymoides Seed Oil), thanks to its high content of linoleic acid (which we will tell you a little more about in a moment), effectively supports the regeneration of irritated, rough and cracked skin, softening, smoothing it and improving its elasticity.

-

Camellia oil (INCI: Camellia Kissi Seed Oil) is a valuable source of omega-3, 6 and 9 acids, vitamin E and polyphenols. Acting as an antioxidant, it soothes irritation and redness and also improves the elasticity and softness of the skin. As a so-called dry oil, it helps bring lightness to the rich, oil-based formula of the rice serum.

-

A blend of fatty acids and triglycerides from plant oils, including almond, borage, linseed and olive (INCI: Almond/Borage/Linseed/Olive Acids/Glycerides) - a lipid complex characterised by greater bioavailability and better absorption by the skin than standard oils, thanks to which it leaves a non-greasy, silky finish on the skin, somewhat reminiscent of the feeling after applying a silicone-based cosmetic. It effectively protects the skin against the loss of natural sebum caused among other things by frequent washing, acts as an antioxidant, and increases the skin's hydration and elasticity.

-

Oxidised corn oil (INCI: Oxidized Corn Oil) - in a patented process of oxidising corn oil, triglycerides are formed with a structure similar to the lipids involved in inflammatory processes in the skin. This gives them the ability to block the inflammation receptors located there, which translates into a strong soothing, anti-irritation action that prevents itching and reduces redness. And that in turn makes oxidised corn oil an excellent cosmetic ingredient for sensitive skin :)

-

Prickly pear seed oil (INCI: Opuntia Ficus-Indica Seed Oil) - rich in antioxidants and vitamins (especially E and K), it has a regenerating, elasticity-improving and smoothing action. It nourishes and moisturises the skin, soothes redness and irritation. Ideal in the care of dry, sensitive, irritation- and allergy-prone as well as mature skin.

Exceptional extracts and active substances

-

Common oat extract (INCI: Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract) is a complex of lipids that mimic those found in human skin - among them ceramides, phospholipids, sterols and polyunsaturated fatty acids. As a cosmetic ingredient it provides a multidirectional protective action that strengthens the epidermal barrier, bringing relief to dry, flaky and dull skin. It effectively replenishes lipid deficiencies in the epidermis, improves its resilience and durability and increases hydration by limiting transepidermal water loss.

Fun fact: Oat extract also contains polyphenols unique to oats, called avenanthramides, whose properties are particularly valuable in the care of atopic or allergy-prone skin. They act as anti-inflammatory and anti-itch agents, soothe irritation and clearly reduce skin redness caused by excessive exposure to sunlight.

-

Ceramides 2 and 3 (INCI: Ceramide NG, Ceramide NP) combined with soybean seed extract (INCI: Glycine Soja (Soybean) Seed Extract) restore the proper functioning of the skin's lipid barrier, maintaining the right level of hydration and elasticity over the long term and supporting the regeneration processes of the epidermis. It is precisely the high concentrations of fatty acids and sterols contained in the soybean seed extract that give ceramides NG and NP the optimal environment for effective action.

You can read more about the key role of ceramides for the health and condition of our skin on our blog in the post - Ceramides - properties and effects - find out everything! :)

-

A derivative of the fatty acids of Meadowfoam seed oil (INCI: Meadowfoam Estolide) mainly performs a moisturising and protective function - it is a plant-based analogue of ceramide 3B (also designated ceramide NP), essential in the process of storing water in the epidermis. Thanks to its high capacity for binding moisture, this ingredient strongly hydrates, softens and smooths the skin, and additionally gives the cosmetic itself a pleasant consistency and an elegant finish on the skin.

-

Extracts of cork oak bark and of oak roots, leaves and flowers (INCI: Quercus Suber Bark Extract, Oak Root Extract) are active ingredients recommended in the care of sensitive and overreactive skin because of their special soothing, calming and redness-reducing properties, whatever the cause of the redness (including UVA and UVB radiation or a high level of haemoglobin in the case of rosacea). Cork oak bark is rich in anti-inflammatory triterpenes and triterpenoids, while the roots, leaves and flowers of the oak are in turn a valuable source of polyphenols - strong antioxidants that effectively fight an excess of free radicals.

Fun fact: Cork oak bark extract as a cosmetic raw material is obtained from a by-product of the production of... wine corks :)

-

Vitamin F (INCI: Linoleic Acid, Linolenic Acid), obtained from safflower seed oil, consists of biologically active, polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acids. Among them, as much as 70-80% is linoleic acid - a building block of ceramide 1, one of the key ceramides found in human skin. Also known as ceramide EOS, it is responsible for the integrity of the so-called intercellular cement, thereby preventing excessive dryness and flaking of the epidermis. By delivering linoleic acid to the skin, vitamin F limits transepidermal moisture loss, noticeably reducing skin roughness, smoothing and softening it - which is why it is especially recommended in the care of dry and atopic skin.

-

Vitamin E (INCI: Tocopherol) is a strong antioxidant, protecting skin cells against the action of free radicals. It thereby slows down skin ageing processes, soothes irritation and redness and speeds up the regeneration of the epidermis.
