Linoleic Acid, Linolenic Acid

Vitamin F

Vitamin F is the common name for essential fatty acids (EFAs) - linoleic acid (omega-6) and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3). The body can't produce them on its own, yet the skin needs them to build the intercellular lipid "mortar" of the stratum corneum.

In cosmetics, vitamin F helps rebuild the skin barrier and keep it in balance. It reduces transepidermal water loss (TEWL), smooths, softens and nourishes the skin, and boosts its resilience to external factors such as wind, frost and dry air.

It works especially well in care routines for dry, rough and sensitive skin. Linoleic and linolenic acids also occur naturally in many plant oils, such as raspberry seed, evening primrose and borage oil.

Did you know?: Vitamin F isn't actually a vitamin. The name was coined in the 1920s, when it was discovered that the body needs these fatty acids - the "F" stands for "fatty acids".
